Botswana: DCI +0.22%, USD 2.11m

Activity dropped off in Gaborone today but it was still a decent session with value traded amounting to USD 2.11m thanks to a cross of 8m Letshego. The rest of the market was rather quiet.

Egypt: EGX 30 +1.43%, USD 67m

The Egyptian market managed to absorb the news of a capital gains tax, which will be implemented on Sunday, to bounce back after failing to break the key support level of 8000. The EGX30 gained 1.43% to close at 8258 points on low volumes of EGP486 million. Local institutions were net buyers worth EGP37 million, targeting CCAP (+3.15%), GTHE (+3.29%), and OCDI (+1.19%). ETEL (+1.59%) awaits the government to finalize the universal telecom license details, originally set for activation on June 30. The real estate sector outperformed the market, PHDC gained 1.26%, TMGH up 0.83%, and HELI added 2.77%.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.78%, USD 8.3m

Activity slowed down in Nairobi with value traded amounting to $8.3m as locals dominated proceedings (62.3%). ARM was the day's most active counter with foreigners accounting for 99.5% of sales. According to the cement maker's annual report, the company completed the acquisition of Kigali Cement in 2014. EQBNK was also rather active as the name slid -2.1% with foreigners dominating activity in the counter. There was a cross of 200k in EABL as a total of 351k shares traded over the day with foreigners dominating purchases in the brewer.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.10%, USD 900k

Another dull day in Port Louis as value traded amounted to USD 900k with MCBG (46k shares) and NMH (49k shares) driving activity while only 1.97m shares traded in SBM.

Nigeria: ASI +0.18%, USD 51.6m

A massive cross of 200m shares in FBNH dorve activity today as a total of $28.60m worth of shares traded in the name while total market value traded amounted to $51.6m. Zenith ($10.03m) was also extremely active while there was decent activity in NB ($1.94m) and Oando ($1.59m). Banks closed the day slightly lower with the Index falling -0.10% with UBA (-1.25%) and FBNH (-0.74%) weighing on the seector. Consumers (-1.08%) were quite weak today thanks to the likes of Nestle (-4.08%) and UACN (-2.73%).

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.25%, USD 1.12m

Activity increased in Harare as value traded amounted to USD 1.12m thanks to Econet ($460k), Delta ($367k) and Innscor ($149k). The market closed the day higher with the Industrial Index gaining +0.25%.
