Botswana: DCI unch, USD 299k

Some action in Choppies (622k shares) the only talking point as value traded amounted to USD 299k.

Egypt: EGX 30 -0.12%, USD 78m

With the market running out of catalysts and investors awaiting a correction following the news that Sawiris-Beltone refused the offered stake in HRHO, the stock took a hit, down 2.79%, and recorded a low of EGP14.85/share for the day. EGX30 shed 0.12% to close at 8,323 points on below average volumes of USD 78m. OCDI (+3.04%) continued to outpace the market after signing EGP950mn facility to finance the development of the 301-acre land plot recently acquired by the company dragging along other real estate names like HELI (+1.93%) and MNHD (+0.91%). JUFO (-2.36%) traded ex-date for 33% stock dividend. Institutional investors accounted for approximately 38% where locals were net buyers worth EGP60.0 million.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.35%, USD 7.4m

Not much on the go in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $7.4m as foreign participation accounted for 70.2% of turnover. Both Safcom (+0.4%) and EABL (+1.0%) performed well on the back of foreign purchases. KNCB was another counter dominated by foreign purchases as the banking giant gained 1.0%. Britam (+1.20%) managed to bounce back after some profit taking last week as local investors dominated trading in the name.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.08%, USD 560k

Slow start to the week in Port Louis with value traded amounting to USD 560k with some small trades in MCBG (22k shares) and NMH (53k shares) the only names worth mentioning.

Nigeria: ASI -0.64%, USD 27.8m

The market would have been at a complete standstill if it were not for the likes of FBNH ($8.94m), Oando ($4.66m) and Transcorp ($2.62m) as total value traded amounted to $27.8m. There was also some activity in Zenith ($1.57m) and Nestle ($991k). Banks closed ever so slightly higher with the Index gaining +0.01% with FBNH (+1.33%) and Zenith (+0.80%) being the best performers. Consumers (+0.09%) also had a marginal gain thanks to Nestle (+0.92%) and Guinness (+0.91%).

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.19%, USD 271k

Very slow day in Harare as value traded amounted to a dire USD 271k with Delta ($122k) accounting for the bulk of turnover. The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.19%.
