Movers & Shakers: July 28, 2014

KCB, Safaricom, KenyaRe and Equity Bank dominated trading today. KCB (+0.9%) and Equity Bank (unchanged) are set to release their 1H14 results within the week. After dropping to a 52 week low of KES 11.00 last week, Mumias Sugar recovered its losses having inched up 6.5% on local investor trading. Investors have been shying off the counter due to the financial and managerial problems that have characterized the miller in the recent past. Local investor interest buoyed Centum Investments to record its 52 week high of KES 46.00. DTB shed 0.4% on foreign investor interest. The banks rights issue shares are set to be listed on 26 August 2014.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.06%, USD 1.88m

It was a relatively active day ahead of tomorrow’s public holiday with value traded amounting to USD 1.88m. There was a small bit of activity in SBM (8.4m shares) and NMH (59k shares) while MCBG was rather quiet with only 11.8k shares changing hands.

Zimbabwe: Industrial Index -0.05%, USD 1.09m

It was a rather average day in Harare as value traded amounted to USD 1.09m with Econet ($803k) and Delta ($208k) the only names worth mentioning. The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.05%.
