Movers & Shakers: March 25, 2015


Botswana: DCI -0.28%, USD 5.8m

A much better day in Gaborone as turnover amounted to a very impressive $5.8m. The main movers were FNBB, Letshego and Sechaba with a turnover of $2.9m, $1.9m and $968k respectively.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.39%, USD 7.2m

Another relatively decent day in Nairobi as turnover amounted to $7.2m as locals continue to dominate. A few large crosses in BRIT drove proceedings with the sellers being foreign, while the buyers were local as 3.43m shares changed hands in the name. EABL managed to gain +0.6% on foreign demand as 237k shares changed hands in the brewer. The banking heavyweights KNCB (+0.8%) and EQBNK (+0.5%) managed to close in positive territory.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.24%, USD 2.6m

The upward momentum continues on the market with indices closing in the green. Turnover was mainly geared towards MCBG and CIEL, both accounting 75.6% of total market turnover. MCBG traded a total of 245k shares and CEIL traded a total of 3.3m as both counter closed firm at Rs198.50 and Rs6.90 respectively. SBM reached a high of Rs1.00 before closing firm at Rs0.99 on the back of 5.3m shares traded.

Nigeria: ASI +1.03%, USD 20.1m

The Nigerian market started off on a very slow note although it did pick up as the day progressed. The index gained just over 1% with both the banks (+1.55%) and consumers (+1.30%) ending the day in the green. Volumes in the banks were led by Zenith (+5%, N17.53), FBNH (+2.9%, N8.59) and GTB (+44bps, N22.60). Consumers were led by NB (+3%, N136.00), Nestle (-62bps, N800.00) and Guinness (unch, N127.00). There was also some action in Dangcem (-18bps, N152.60).

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.25%, USD 234k

Foreign participation propelled Delta into the driving seat.164k shares were traded in the name as the counter closed the session flat at 109c. Also amoungst the front runners was Afdis with the pair accounting for 86.07% of turnover- the counter closed at 45c after trading 50k shares.
