Letshego and Choppies stole the show today as the counters traded a total of 2.1m and 3.9m shares to close at 345t and 446t respectively. Other significant contributors included Furnmart and Letlole.
Foreigners were net buyers in today’s session as they accounted for 62.45 of total turnover. Top movers included Safaricom (+0.3%, KES16.45), EABL (+0.6%, KES316) and KCB (1.7%, KES59.50) – accounted for 71.3% of market activity. KCB continued its rally on the back of foreign investor demand. Notable gainers included Scangroup (+3.3%, KES38.75), StanChart and KCB whilst the laggards BAT (-8.3%, KES720), Kakauzi (-6.7%, KES280) and Sasini (-4.4%, KES15.25).
MCB closed the day strong at RS207 (+1.1%) after trading a total of 9.1m shares as 44.2k shares were crossed at that level whilst its banking counterpart SBM finally moved from Rs0.93 to close up to Rs0.94- gaining 1.1%. NMH and Ceil traded smalls to close up 0.8% and 0.6% at Rs60.75 and Rs7.14 respectively.
From bad to worse as activity is all but non-existent. Foreign participants remain wary of getting involved in the absence of any specific catalyst and as such the volumes continue to dry up while general softness permeates through the bourse. Banks fell a further 2.55% as all names ended the session in the red. Consumers also fell although only by 36bps. Outside of NB (-34bps, N148.00) there was nothing happening in the sector.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Thin trades across the board. The most actively traded stocks included BAT, Delta and Lafarge. Surprisingly Econet registered no trades in the session as the counter closed unchanged at 44c (the counter was well bid).
