Turnover took a slump today as the top contributors included Barclays, Choppies , FNBB and Turnstar.
KCB, Equity Bank and Safaricom accounted for 63.9% of total market activity. Foreigners were mainly net sellers in the session- selling activity was mainly skewed towards BAT and Safaricom. The latter closed the day unchanged at KES16.05 after trading a total of 7.3m shares. Equity Bank and BAT declined by 0.5% and 0.3% to close at KES46.75 and KES701 respectively.
SBM shed 1.1% to close at Rs0.93 despite trading 17.1m shares whilst it’s banking counterpart MCB closed 0.2% higher at Rs208.50 after trading a total of 158k shares – counters accounted for 80.3% of total turnover. NMH and Ciel closed the day in the green as the counters traded a total of 22.6k and 378k shares to close at Rs21.50 and Rs7.20 respectively. Monthly tourist’s arrivals have increased by 8.9% from Jan to May ’14 to ’15.
A better day in Lagos but still nothing to write home about as turnover increased to $20.6m thanks to crosses in GTB ($3.77m), UBA ($3.77m), WAPCO ($2.56m), Zenith ($1.97m) and NB ($1.65m). Banks closed the day lower with the sector falling -1.57% as Zenith (-3.23%) and GTB (-1.63%) came under pressure. Consumers (+0.48%) closed higher thanks to PZ Cussons (+4.99%) and GSK (+2.00%).

Another slow day on the bourse as only 11 counters registered trades. Top movers included Econet (-2.27%, 43c), CBZ (+40%, 9.81c) and Meikles (unch, 7.50c).
