The bourse is simply pushing up the daisies
A very quiet day in Nairobi as expected. The most active names were Equity Bank (KES53.50) and EABL (KES334) although outside of this there was nothing much going on.
The Port Louise market saw an amazing start to the week, as total turnover amounted to $4.29m, buoyed by MCBG(+1.9%), CEIL, SBM (-1.0%) and Go life International. After reporting good Dec14 results, MCBG closed the session off at Rs201.25 with a total volume of 308.4k shares traded. SBM closed the day down at Rs1.00 after trading a hefty 20.5m shares.
As expected with the US on holiday it was a painfully quiet day, even quieter than the quiet sessions we have seen of late. As such, we wouldnt read too much into the ASI finally breaking its losing run. Banks actually gained 45bps although outside of some action in GTB (+2.35%, N17.40) the sector was dull. Consumers were very quiet with just some mild action in NB (-78bps, N128.00) and PZ (+4bps, N27.00) the only things worth noting. There was some decent action in Dangcem (+1.47%, N143.99).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A decent start to the week in Harare thanks to Econet which accounted 53% of total market turnover. The counter traded 1.78m shares closing at 54.90c, while other significant contributors included Delta ($339k), Innscor ($254k) and Zimplow ($115k).
