The market was extremely quiet

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.78%, USD 11.8m

A rather active day in Kenya with foreign buying and local selling the main themes on the day. The most active name was Equity Bank which was driven higher (+90bps, KES54.00) by foreign demand which EABL (+1.5%, KES341.00) also saw chunky foreign trading. Safcom gained 70bps to KES14.95 also on the back of foreign buying. There was also a chunky cross in KPLL (+5.9%, KES17.95; both sides local) after releasing H1 results.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.40%, USD 3.43m

Another promising day in Port Louise as indices continue to close in the green. MCBG gained 0.4% to close at Rs202.00 as the counter traded a total of 171.8k shares. SBM exchanged 11.9m shares to hold firm at Rs1.01 (+1%). ROGE closed 1.7% higher at Rs30.50, after media reports stated the company was looking to purchase an off-shore management company (Kross- Border).

Nigeria: ASI +2.55%, USD 17.7m

Volumes remain low in Lagos although the buying in the banks continue full steam ahead. Banks gained 4.82% led by strong buying across all Tier 1 names. The biggest outperformers were GTB (+10%, N20.80), Access (+6.13%, N5.54) and UBA (+5.32%, N3.17). Consumers were much more subdued although jumped onto the coattails and gained 72bps. The sector was very quiet though and only NB (+1.82%, N132.37) saw any decent action. There was also a chunky cross in Dangcem as the largest cap name gained 3.89% to N155.00.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.12%, USD 9.0m

The Harare bourse closed the day with a staggering 9.0m total turnover, buoyed by Delta and Econet. Deltas total market turnover was USD5.2m, closing the day flat at 116c on the back of 4.5m shares traded. The teleco front runner, Econet traded a total of 6m shares to close at 54.50c. The rest of the market had minimal impact on turnover, as Innscor and Ok Zim among others, registered paltry volumes.
