Outside of some chunky trading in KNCB the Kenyan bourse was rather dull. KNCB was driven by strong foreign buying although the name did end the day unchanged at KES59.00. The rest of the market was dull with trading in the likes of Safcom (unch, KES14.85), BRIT (+1.7%, KES29.75) and EqBnk (unch, KES53.50) leading the way. There was also a profit warning out in TPSEA and the name was soft albeit on tony volumes.
Another quiet day in Lagos although the buying returned to the banks, particularly the Tier 1 names. The banks gained an impressive 3.89% led higher by the likes of GTB (+8.45%, N18.87), FBNH (+4.94%, N6.80) and Zenith (+5.39%, N17.02). Consumers jumped onto the bandwagon as they rose by 2.78% led by NB (+1.56%, N130.00), Nestle (+5.00%, N791.17) and Guinness (+5.00%, N119.07) while Flourmills (+9.83%, N30.39) had a particularly good day on decent volumes. In the oil sector we saw reasonable action in Seplat (unch, N404.00).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Delta and Econet lead proceedings as the index closed down due to increased selling pressure in the blue chip stocks. Delta accounted 82% of total market turnover to close the day at 116c, while Econet closed at 54.80c after trading 1.02m shares.
