Movers & Shakers: March 07, 2018

Botswana: DCI +0.10, USD 4.7m

Another massive day in Gaborone today, with Letshego (unch, 189t) accounting for 95% of turnover. There were also decent trades in Choppies ($223k), while the rest of the market was quiet.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.13%, USD 9.05m

The market closed positive for the second straight day, as foreign participation remained at 52%. KNCB (+1.03%) was the most active name, accounting for a third of the market turnover as its numbers are expected to come before the end of the week.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.11%, USD 1.09m

A not so bad day in Port Loius as Rs36m exchanged hands while MCBG (+0.5%, Rs275.50), Excelsior (-4.5%, Rs21.00) and IBL (unch, Rs50.00) making the numbers accounting for a combined 77% of the turnover. The rest of the market was softer with the likes of SBM declining 0.3% trading at Rs7.58.

Nigeria: ASI -1.51%, USD 14.3m

It was a negative close in Nigeria, with only the Insurance sector gaining on the day. Zenith bank dominated the action, accounting for approximately 40% of total market turnover.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.06%, USD 823k

A massive decline from yesterday’s booming activity even though it wasn’t a really horrible day, relatively speaking, with Seedco ($227k) accounting for 28% of the market turnover at 195.00c continuing its topsy-turvy movement. BATZ ($174k) unmoved trading at 200.00c and the only other name worth a mention was Hippo Valley ($170k) sitting flat at 170.00c.
