Another quiet day in Gaborone.
The market closed the week on a negative note, with foreign participation closing at 61%. The big 4 dominated the action on the day, accounting for 83% of turnover.
A not so bad day in Port Loius as Rs45m exchanged hands while GRIT (unch, Rs1.45), MCBG (+0.4%, Rs276.00) and NMH (-1.0%, Rs23.75) making the numbers contributing to a combined 76% of the market. The rest of the market closed softer with the likes of CIEL retreating 0.5% trading at Rs7.46.
A negative close to the week in Nigeria while all indices except the consumers closed positive. Heavyweights Dangcem, Nestle and NB all closed negative, dragging the index into the negative territory. The Banks (+3.15%) gained the most on the day, spurred by names like Zenith which closed limit up and Guaranty. The Banks also dominated the turnover with Guaranty, Access and Zenith closing with decent volumes traded on the day. There was a cross in Unilever, as the name recorded a turnover of USD 3.7m.

A chunky and bullish trade in Old Mutual ($3.6m) drove the market today on the Harare bourse. The counter advanced 0.92% trading at 556.05c and accounted for 84% of today’s turnover while the only name with decent volume was Econet ($554k) unmoved at 67.00c.
