A very solid day in Gaborone thanks to crosses in Letshego (3.46m shares), Stanchart (437k shares) and Barclays (543k shares).
A better day in Nairobi as turnover amounted to $6.2m with foreigners dominating proceedings. EABL was the most active counter on the day as 688k shares traded with the brewer falling -0.4%. Foreign demand drove Centum +0.4% higher as 1.37m shares traded. Safcom closed the day unchanged on light volume with 4.4m shares changing hands in the telco. KNCB and EQBNK were very quiet. BATK fell -8.2% after parliament's decision to increase the proposed excise duty on cigarettes.
A very pleasing day from an activity point of view with total value traded amounting to $1.95m. Some solid action in MCBG drove proceedings as 194k shares traded in the name while there was a small bit of activity in SBMH (12.9m shares).
Aside from a cross in Zenith ($13.2m) the market was extremely dull with some activity in GTB ($1.66m) the only other name worth mentioning. Banks closed the day lower after a few days of solid gains with the sector falling -1.67% thanks to GTB (-3.35%), FBNH (-2.41%) and ETI (-2.23%). Consumers (-1.06%) also closed lower with losses in Dangote Sugar (-9.16%), UACN (-5.00%) and IntBrew (-4.17%) amongst the worst performers.

Activity slowed down in Harare today but was still better than what we have become accustomed to with turnover amounting to $1.1m thanks to Econet ($1.09m) while the rest of the market was dead.
