Not a bad day in Gaborone (relatively speaking) thanks to some action in Letshego as 1.7m shares changed hands in the name.
If it wasn’t for a chunky cross in Bamburi at KES180 (both sides foreign) then the day would have been as forgettable as yesterday as absolutely nothing happening in Nairobi. Outside of the BMBC cross we saw some foreign action in Safcom (KES15.00). The rest of the market was non-existent.
Nothing much to report from Port Louis as turnover amounted to a dissapointing $680k with a bit of activity in MCBG (64k shares).
The Nigerian bourse got off to a quick start with some crossing in a variety of names. However, after about 2 hours all activity stopped and we trickled into the close. Banks closed the day down 34bps with activity once again led by GTB (-1.43%, N24.15) and Zenith (-6bps, N18.10). However, immediately after the close the MPC announced that the CRR would fall from 31% to 25% - this should be seen as a positive for the sector. The MPC also announced that interest rates would remain unchanged at 13% while the liquidity ratio would also remain unchanged at 30%. The consumers gained 1.07% today led by NB (+2.65%, N140.02) and Nestle (-1bp, N820.00).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another dull day in Harare with some small activity in Econet ($263k) and Seedco ($158k) the only names worth mentioning.
