Movers & Shakers: June 13, 2016

Botswana: DCI +0.11%, USD 60k

Nothing to report from Gaborone.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.41%, USD 3.9m

A very muted start to the week in Kenya. There was a decent cross in the normally illiquid DTKL (+1.1%, KES180.00) which accounted for more than 40% of the day’s volumes. Normal trading activity was highly thin with just some mild action in Equity Bank (unch, KES40.00) moving the needle.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.10%, USD 1.1m

MCBG dominated proceedings on the first day of the week as 122k shares changed hands in the names while there was a small bit of activity in in the likes of CIEL Limited, IBL and SBMH.

Nigeria: ASI -0.47%, USD 11.4m

Another woeful day in Lagos. In fact, if it wasn’t for a rather chunky cross in Nestle (accounted for about 55% of the total turnover) then the day would have been disgraceful. The index still does not know which way to go although there was news out today that the Central Bank plans to announce the new FX policy later this week. Hopefully this news will give the market some kind of direction. Today we saw the banks gain 76bps albeit on small volumes. Consumers fell by 72bps although outside of Nestle (-2.95%, N757.00) there was nothing to write home about.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -1.37%, USD 1.4m

A solid start to the week from an activity point of view, but this should however be taken with a pinch of salt as a cross in Delta ($1.3m) completely dominated proceedings while the rest of the market was dead quiet.
