Nothing to report from Gaborone.
A much better day in Nairobi as foreigners dominated proceedings and accounted for 76.4% of activity. Safcom closed -0.8% lower on foreign selling pressure as 22.6m shares changed hands in the telco. A large foreign cross in the usually illiquid UMME was the surprise of the day as 2.5m shares traded. None of the other big names saw any activity worth reporting with only KNCB seeing a tiny bit of action with 805k shares traded.
A little bit of life returned to Port Louis today mostly thanks to MCBG (unch, Rs212.50). The rest of the market was extremely quiet.
Another relatively active day in Lagos, compared to what we have become accustomed to over the last 18 months with some action in Zenith ($6.1m), Nestle ($5.3m), GTB ($2.2m) and UBA ($1.1m) driving proceedings. Banks had another solid day with the sector gaining +2.25% thanks to GTB (+4.40%), Zenith (+2.19%) and UBA (+1.59%). Consumers (+3.33%) also closed stronger thanks to good performances in Guinness (+5.00%), NB (+3.96%) and Nestle (+2.76%) with a cross in the latter helping boost activity.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The Harare revival continues as we saw demand in Delta (57c) and Econet (21c).
