Some local action in Barclays (463t) and BIHL (1644t) were the main tickers on a generally dull day.
A rather active day in Nairobi thanks to a number of crosses in Safcom (+1.6%, KES18.60) and BMBC (-60bps, KES174.00). The market started with some aggressive foreign buying in Safcom hence the name gaining ground. BMBC was pretty solid with almost the entire action taking place at KES175. There was also some mild action in EABL (+70bps, KES302) while the 2 big banks had quiet days.
A muted day in Port Louis with nothing overly exciting in terms of activity. The main mover was SBMH which fell by 3% to Rs0.64.
As expected the Nigerian market opened on fire with many names well bid at limit up. This was mostly speculating locals pushing the prices higher. Sellers then entered the market and started to see opportunities to exit some names so we saw the market generally soften throughout the day. Banks still closed the day up 3.10% with some chunky trades going through in names like Zenith Bank (+5.2%, N16.59), GTB (+3.56%, N20.66) and UBA (+1.96%, N4.69). Consumers were much more muted although NB (+5.99%, N141.76) was by far the most active name in the sector. Dangcem (+1.66%, N175.06) also witnessed a couple of crosses.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The market finally arrested its slide while Delta tried to rebound at it closed at 52c. There was also some activity in Econet (20.96c) and Simbisa (14c).
