Nothing overly exciting took place today with mild trading in Sechaba (2900t) and Sefalana (1330t) the main highlights.
A rather average day in Nairobi as foreigners continued to dominate proceedings. The market came under a bit of pressure with the NSE 20 Index reaching levels last seen in May 2012 as foreign outflows for the session amounted to $1.15m. EQBNK (-1.2%) continued to come under pressure on foreign selling as 9.2m shares traded while KNCB (-0.7%) also closed the day lower on low volume. There was a bit of action in the usually illiquid Co-op Bank (local buyer/ foreign seller) while BMBC came under pressure and fell -2.9% on foreign selling. Safcom's recent woes continued as the telco closed -2.5% lower.
Another relatively dull session to end the week in Mauritius. MCBG slipped by 20bps to Rs212.00.
With all eyes focused on the U.K and Europe it was understandable that there would be a lack of interest in the Lagos bourse today. There was a little bit of activity in GTB ($3m), Zenith ($2.4m) and DangCem ($2.1m) while the rest of the market was rather dull. The rally in banking stocks came to a halt today with the sector closing -1.87% lower with losses in UBA (-3.92%), Zenith (-0.95%) and GTB (-0.29%). Consumers (-1.38%) were also weaker with NB (-3.00%) being the major drag on the sector. All in all, it has been a rather hectic week in Lagos with the devaluation of the Naira and Brexit as a number of investors still have a rather cautious stance while we wait for the dust to settle.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The index finished the week on a strong note with activity focused on Innscor (17.3c) and Seedco (57c).
